I re-listened to this podcast...while agree that minimum wage has not increased with the GDP or stock market, I believe we are overlooking one simple fact, Minimum wage was never meant for a person to live off of, it is meant for kids straight out of school, that have next to no skills, to earn a wage and start in the workforce. If you are a grown adult with kids, and you are making minimum wage, your personal choices are to blame not the corporate elite. I personally do not believe that a 16 year old kid working a summer job, flipping burgers deserves the same wage, or near, someone who works 40 or more a week and has a family to provide for, I believe a person should be paid for their experience and their performance....just my 2 cents anyway!

I think you’re joking about the flat tax idea, Mario, but the point Lee makes about wages to be some product of a formula that involves skill, experience, job category, and performance, etc could be used. The big fix of an idea for the class inequality, disparity, whatever, I don’t know. It’s a discussion that needs moment. The problem is “folks” get so riled up, and hate grows. We lose again, for now.
The company I work for is Canfield Industries, they also do pneumatic valves in their sister company Spartan Scientific.
I couldn't agree more with everything you just said. I work for a company that does injection molding also, and the wage starts about 14 here. Although I don't work in the injection molding area.
I think the key here is skill, the idea is so pushed right now that people need a college degree to succeed. While I respect those who decide to do it, the ends don't always justify. The cost of education isn't usually worth the paper the degree is printed on anymore. I think we can agree that a living wage these days for a single person is right around 50,000 that means a $26 hr wage which is rarely seen. Let's think about what 50,000 annually before taxes really means anymore. Either you have it or you don't, and those who do have it just aren't worried about those who don't. Take a look at the politicians that decide what is a livable wage and how much we should pay in taxes, then look at what they are paid, or what their children are paid just because of affiliations.
I agree the funds should be used wisely. Don't forget there are many out there that don't make 30,000 before taxes and still pay more than the 1 percent. The minimum wage in ohio is $8.80 hr which rounds to about $17 to 18 thousand annually before taxes. The cost of living is well beyond living off that minimum wage or even double as of recently. I don't mean to sound like a socialist but there definitely seems to be work to exterminate the middle class.
It's a valid point, I think a flat tax would solve many of the economic issues.
